For Sale: 1954 Corvette, New in box! [1]
For many of us, scale die-cast cars adorn offices and shelves around our living space. They provide nice little trinkets to remind us of what we have waiting at home when a hard days’ work is over with. What Chris Graff bought for his father Hank is on a whole new level of scaled toys. Actually, it isn’t really a toy at all, at least not in the pre-teen sense of the word.

As a retirement gift, Chris bought his father a fully restored 1954 Corvette. When the car was traded in at the family dealership, Chris’s dad didn’t even realize what was coming. Seven months later the restoration was complete and he received the gift of a lifetime.

Instead of simply handing his dad the keys to the shiny new sports car, Chris got creative with it. The Corvette was delivered on a trailer surrounded by a box similar to what you’d see your favorite die-cast come in. The box features some pretty neat attention to detail as well. Written on the side are phrases similar to that of a real toy, denoting that the car comes with “working hood, doors, and trunk; real rubber tires; functional steering; and correctly detailed engine.” Chris even gives himself a well deserved round of applause by adding, “Hand assembled by skilled craftsman” to the list of attributes.
We can’t tell if the 8.5 by 24 foot structure containing the Corvette is a strike of brilliance or the world’s most masterfully orchestrated gag gift. Chris had better hope his dad has enough space to store the enormous structure.
