It seems like theres always something going on at the National Corvette Museum. Their continually rotating exhibits make for a unique and exciting experience with every attendance. Lately, they have two new vehicles that have been accepted into the “Performance Area” and announced one of their cars will soon be seen on the big screen!
The first car new to the museum is a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport II replica. It rocks an Admiral Blue paint job with red accents, a white racing stripe down the center, and Torch Red interior. It uses a real 1963 stingray body and chassis and was converted into a Grand Sport in 2002 with a 1996 GM LT-4, which was taken apart by the newest owner, who added a 427 cubic-inch stroker dart block. As it sits now, it boasts nearly 770 horsepower and holds many awards from high-end car shows.
The second is a 1969 big block 4-speed coupe painted bright red with white racing stripes. The second owner of this vehicle gutted it and added a roll cage before professional racers Don Yenko and Jerry Thompson raced it in The 12 Hours of Sebring and The 24 Hours of Daytona in the late ‘70s. In 2012, the newest owner purchased it, vowed to restore it, and here it is.
The NCM recently proudly showcased a 1966 Rally Red C2 Corvette, as it will be seen in the movie “Fast 8”, coming to theaters April 14, 2017. It will be driven by Michelle Rodriguez “Letty” but, as we can tell from released photos it unfortunately doesn’t stay too long. They noted the car’s rarity, as there were only 3,366 Rally Red C2s made in history.
