In what can only be described as a blatant “butt-head move,” Authorities in Fort Smith, Arkansas, are saying that someone may have purposely torched this 2000 Corvette convertible. The Fire Marshal in Fort Smith, is investigating what is currently being labeled as a “suspicious fire” that destroyed this Vette. The car was parked in the front yard of a house in the 700 block of North 18th Street early on the morning of March 12th.
Skip Mathews (Battalion Chief) said that the family found their 2000 Corvette burning in the yard in front of their house just before 2:00 a.m. The family told firefighters that the car had been sitting, and had not been driven in several days, if not weeks.
Once the fire was out, the fire crew then began to investigate as to how the fire could have started. Mathews said that there is evidence that the fire started on the passenger’s side of the car. His theory is based on that fact that is where the most significant damage was done. “It’s just completely destroyed.” Mathews said.
Officers with Fort Smith, Arkansas, Police were also on scene, and authorities said it’s the second time they’ve been at the same home in the past two weeks. They were previously there several days prior, when the family reported the same Corvette that burned—and another truck that was parked in their driveway had been shot. Officers re-examined the bullet hole under the driver’s side door of the truck at the scene Thursday morning.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
