Stingray Concept Convertible Caught In Photos

This summer marks the return of the love-it-or-hate-it Michael Bay Transformers franchise. The first installment was great, though the sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, left a lot of us scratching our heads or shrugging. However, the sequel did introduce the world to Sideswipe, better known as the Corvette Stingray Concept. As Hollywood ramps up for the culmination of this trilogy, a new droptop version of the Stingray Concept has been caught carousing in California.

Corvetteblogger came across these pictures of the convertible Stingray concept on Flickr, and we like what we see. Will this really be the basis for the next-generation Corvette?

All signs are pointing to yes. At this point GM has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into product placement for the Transformers franchise, building the Stingray concept, and promoting the Transformers vehicle and movie in its advertising (including a $100,000-per-second Super Bowl spot.) The original Stingray concept came out over five years ago, so for GM to have invested additional resources into building a convertible version seems to indicate to us that this concept could become reality.

The Stingray convertible was not alone in these pictures. The Bumblebee Camaro, a red Ferrari, and blue Mercedes-Benz joined the concept car in the photos as part of a promotional effort for the third Transformers movie, The Dark of the Moon, which comes out on July 1st this summer. Are you excited for the next Transformers movie, or just sort of “meh” about it?
