And while we may not be the biggest fans of law enforcement officers, it is important to remember that even though they have an important job to do, they are human beings too. They make mistakes, and sometimes encounter bad luck, just like the rest of us. The difference is that when they make a mistake, it is often very well publicized.
Take this story that Jalopnik [3] came across on CecilWhig.com [2] of a Delaware State Trooper crashing into a used car dealership, totaling his cruiser and dealing serious damage to a cadre of Camaros and Corvettes.
According to the report, the unnamed trooper was driving along at around 6:30 in the morning when he suffered a “medical emergency.” The trooper lost control of his vehicle, hitting a Toyota Camry and then driving for four miles before crossing the Maryland state border and crashing into the Williams Chevrolet Auto Mall.
It is common car dealership practice to put the best, most attractive cars up front, which in this case meant a whole bunch of Camaros and Corvettes. In total, the trooper wrecked three brand new Camaros and a Corvette, with an estimated value of between $150,000 and $175,000. That’s gotta hurt. But most importantly, the trooper survived the accident and medical emergency and is recovering, though an investigation into the accident is pending. Too bad there won’t be any recovery ward for those damaged Camaros and Corvettes…
