According to the folks at Corvette Blogger, 600 SRT Vipers were idly sitting on dealer lots unsold at a price point of $101,300. The news of the 2015 Z06 spread like wild fire, and with rumors of its release being this December or early January perhaps its upcoming release is partly to blame with the stalling Viper sales.
In the month of August, only 38 2014 SRT Vipers were sold. If you applied these sales figures throughout the year, about half of the 2014 Vipers would go un-sold. Considering the leaves are about to turn, we know that the 2015 models are about to arrive… not looking so good for Chrysler.
At the aforementioned price point, the Viper was priced about $20k higher then what the 2015 Z06 will be released at, which also will host a bit more muscle under the hood. Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis recognized this and has sense lowered the price for the 2015 SRT Viper $15,000 and he also lowered the remaining 2014 models to the same tune. As not to leave the 2013 and 2014 buyers out in the cold, there is also a $15,000 credit given to these buyers should they want to trade-in or purchase a new car outright. With $30,000 savings, it’s not a terrible thought.
While it may not be terrible… it’s still no Corvette. The 2015 Z06 will have 10 more horsepower and 50 more foot-pounds of torque then the 2015 Viper along with a list of other features not found with the SRT car. While there are plenty of personal preferences steering a buyer one way or another between the two vehicles, we simply found it very interesting. Perhaps the new Z06, without even hitting the road, has already struck fear into the competition it will be sharing the asphalt with.
