When it comes to countries known for their performance car buying habits, Mexico is not generally one of the first to come to mind. But that could be changing now thanks to Chevrolet Mexico’s recent announcement. As we found out from CorvetteBlogger, Chevrolet Mexico recently posted a press release on their Facebook page announcing the opening of four performance stores in Mexico that will specialize in offering Corvette ZR1 and Grand Sport models.

The special performance stores set to open this month in Mexico will carry the ZR1 as well as both the coupe and convertible Grand Sport, shortened to “GS,” Corvette models. Not only will customers be able to shop for the Corvettes at stores in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Queretaro and Culiacan, they will also be able to custom order their vehicles

The ZR1 will be sold in Mexico for 1,600,000 pesos, which corresponds with the model’s $111,600 US price tag. The GS Coupe will be offered for 925,000 pesos with either a manual or automatic transmission while the GS Convertible will be offered for 975,000 pesos with only an available automatic transmission. Customers can also choose to take part in the Corvette Engine Build Experience through the four special performance stores.

While the type of currency and the names of colors for the Corvettes sold in the Mexican market may be a little different, Chevrolet’s move to make the performance Corvette models more accessible to our southern neighbors is a good move. After all, sales of the sports car can only go up since just eight Corvettes were exported to Mexico in 2010.
