The much anticipated Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona from January 13-31, 2016 was, not surprisingly, an impressive success.

We were lucky to catch the televised action and watch one stunning classic after another reach their maximum bids and experience the excitement and congratulations to the present winners.

No doubt NASCAR team owner and avid collector, Rick Hendrick, would want to get his bid in some of these beauties. And indeed, he did. He bid, and he won, not one, but three stunning first production Corvettes and a rare 1969 L88.

Also, now part of the Hendrick Corvette collection is the 1956 Venetian Red and White convertible featuring the first dual 4-barrel carburetor engine.red

Last, but not least, the 1957 Cascade Green and Beige convertible with the first production 283ci, and the majority of the components dated July 1956, including the engine, transmission, and differential, also featured in our article Barrett-Jackson to Auction Off First Production Trio.green

The final price for these three amazing VIN No. 001 Corvettes: $1,815,000

Not one to pass on other outstanding Corvettes, Hendrick’s winning bid of $525,000 also scored him the 1969 convertible with the rare L88 engine, featured in our Top Three Corvettes to Watch Out For article.blue
But that’s not all. Hendrick’s winning bid of a cool $1.2 million also earned him the first production 2017 Acura NSX.

truckAnd, just because trucks are cool, especially if it is a Transformer truck, an additional winning bid of $110,000 made Hendrick the new proud owner of “Optimus Prime.”

Remember “Optimus Prime?” The 1979 custom Peterbilt truck used in the filming of the first “Transformers” movie.

The film’s producer, Michael Bay, stated: “This thing can do donuts at 70 miles per hour!”

As the winning bidder, Hendrick also earns a walk-on spot in the filming of the next “Transformers” movie. What a lucky guy! Green with envy, we can only say “Congratulations Mr. Hendrick!”three
