Have you had issues with your headlights turning off while driving at night on your early C6 Corvette without warning? Well, if you have, you’re not alone. According to Autoweek [3], the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received 30 complaints of similar headlight problems and has now launched an investigation into the issue.
[4]According to the NHTSA [5], 30 Corvette owners have reported having their headlights turn off while they’re driving during night hours without warning. Some owners reported that the lights would cut out intermittently while others reported having their lights go off and stay off for awhile before turning back on.
In most of the cases where the lights went off and stayed off, the headlamps would illuminate again once the car had been parked.
The NHTSA investigation is currently looking into the cause of the potential headlight failure, which could affect nearly 103,000 early C6 Corvettes, including base 2005 and 2006 models as well as the performance Z06.
Luckily, there have been no accidents or injuries reported that were caused by the headlight issues, although one individual reported that he hit a tire trying to get to the side of the road because he couldn’t see it in front of him, according to the Autoweek article.
General Motors [6] is said to be cooperating with the investigation and the NHTSA will announce its findings, along with any potential recalls [7] to fix the problem, pending the completion of their investigation. If recalled, this will be the second recall that GM is facing in the last few weeks, after many 2012 and 2013 Buick LaCrosses and Chevy Malibus were recalled May 6th [8] for possible engine stalling and truck fire issues.
