There’s been plenty of rumors up in the air regarding the upcoming C7 Corvette ZR1 [2], so its refreshing to hear some news that’s actually official– straight from the creators themselves. Well, Chevy didn’t give up the information willingly, friends of the guys at CorvetteBlogger dug it up when searching through a GM ordering system.

First, someone came across a new caliper color added to the list of options called “ZR1 Blue.” If you have stellar memory, you may remember that the recently revealed Carbon 65 Edition ‘Vette [3] was sporting bright blue brake calipers– making it the very first production C7 available with blue calipers.

In the past, Chevy has used different caliper colors on each base model– the Stingray with grey, the Grand Sport with black, the Z06 with red, and guess what?… The ZR1 with blue. It’s not 100 percent certain for the 2018, but we are more than willing to bet on it.

But, in more recent news, the guys over at CorvetteActionCenter also came across a check box listed as “Gas Guzzler Tax, ZR1.” Even though you may not have heard of it, this tax is nothing new and was also previously added onto the ZL1 and the Z/28. But, what does this mean, exactly?

Well, basically, this confirms our presumption that the new ZR1 is going to be a Gas Guzzler, but also means it isn’t going to meet the fuel economy requirements set in place by the U.S. Government. Go figure. The tax is ultimately paid by the manufacturer but, unfortunately, is almost always recouped from the vehicle’s buyer. Those that are more costly and have lower fuel economy are at the most risk, with the Gas Guzzler tax sometimes shooting up prices $8,000.

While this news may not be the best, its just more of a reason to believe the ZR1 is coming soon… Very soon.
