Modified 2019 Corvette ZR1 Makes Over 700 RWHP On The Dyno

Well, it already happened. Someone — that person being YouTuber Street Speed 717 — has already modified his 2019 ZR1 and is hitting the dyno with it. This is the first modified ZR1 we have ever seen on the dyno thus far — though a little birdie told us that Lingenfelter has quite a surprise in store — but that’s a tale for another time.

It takes a special kind of person to modify their low-10-second-quarter-mile-time capable ZR1, but as you may well know, the lust for power and speed are insatiable — this being one of the better examples we can think of on the topic. We’ve already shown you that the ZR1 is capable of low-10s on just a radial, but that apparently isn’t enough for Street Speed.

In an attempt to bump up the LT5’s already substantial 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque, Street Speed turned to the guys over at Corsa, who have already developed an X pipe for the vaunted ZR1. But before he did any modding, he goes ahead and does the smart thing and baselines the car before anything is done to the vehicle. This gives us a good indication of what kind of gains we are looking at, since we all know a dyno is just a tool and can differ from time to time.

However, in this case, the baseline is almost exactly the same as the first time he had it dyno’d, though the car makes a little bit more power this time around maxing outat 683 horsepower and 623 lb-ft, while averaging essentially what it did before. After the baselines are out of the way, it’s time to get the new X pipe on.

The new X pipe from Corsa is stainless steel and has one key difference from the factory setup, it ditches the secondary catalytic converts. And while modern cats aren’t much of a restriction, on a 700+ horsepower car, a small change can make a drastic difference. However, the factory setup looks to be a pretty capable piece in its own right. It already has an X crossover built in, but out it goes.

According to Street Speed, ditching the secondary cats doesn’t set a check engine light — which makes sense considering the rear oxygen sensor appear to be before the rear cats. Once the new X pipe is back on and the Corvette shows off its new, improved exhaust note, it’s back to the dyno

After several pulls with the new exhaust component, the ZR1 belts out a best pull of 700 rear-wheel horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque — quite a nice gain for roughly 20-30 minutes worth of work. Not too shabby for one of the first modified C7 ZR1s of all time and we’re sure this is just the beginning. A tune, smaller supercharger pulley, and headers are mentioned as the next possible modification to the ZR1, but we’ll likely have to wait for those as the aftermarket scrambles to produce components and tuning solutions for the car. For $300, however, mods don’t get much better than that.
