As you may recall, we published a news story about a potential mid-engine Corvette surfacing in 2017. While GM is still living under a veil of secrecy about any involvement or rumors of such a project, the buzz does not seem to be diminishing about it, especially with the GM filing a trademark for the word “Zora”.
TopSpeed recently developed a series of renderings about what they think the “Zora ZR1” would look like. While it is very C7 Stingray based, there are some noticeable differences. You may notice the longer lines of the rear hatch, the lowering of the cockpit, and what looks to be a lengthened wheelbase. The initial sketch was a good start and you can just imagine what beast of motor could be bolted into a car like that.
Speaking of which, TopSpeed believes that the motor would be an enhanced version of the Z06 engine, belting out over 700hp. This type of power would push the car well over 200mph, and be available to the public for about $150,000. A car like this would really make a grew addition to the GM sports car lineup. The Stingray is one fantastic car, but there is always room for improvement.
While many Corvette enthusiasts would prefer the engine stay upfront, their wishes may come true. If in fact the idea even comes to fruition, it is unclear as to whether this would be a C7 or released as a C8. Also, GM could always release the car as a separate model under the Corvette name, and not so much of a direct competitor or replacement.
