Wow. Who’d a thunk? A mild mannered 1971 VW Beetle dropped on top of a custom chassis with a Chevy V8, C4 components and guts.
Seller says this thing is riding on a tubular space frame custom built for the car. Look closely and see if you can detect where the body was stretched and pulled.
Front and rear suspension are pilfered from a C4 Corvette, as well as the 5.7-liter V8 with power bumped up a bit to 400-horsepower. An automatic transmission backs it up.
You probably wouldn’t notice the mods as you walk by, but upon closer inspection, there is a radiator poking out under the front bumper and the hood opens the opposite of a stock Beetle. Open the “trunk” and the air-cooled sewing machine motor is conspicuously AWOL.
Inside, bits and pieces of a poor, sacrificed C4 now occupy the the tan interior of Germany’s “People’s Car.” There’s even a roll bar. When this rumbles down the road on C4 mags and beefy tires, it probably creates much cognitive dissonance when folks hear it go by.
Seller says car has “Aluminum driveline, Dana 36 rear end, and 16″ aluminum wheels with Z-rated tires. It has a 3″ dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. With the widened and flared fenders, this bug is 9″ wider than the standard ’71 Super Beetle, which gives it a bolder stance and impressive appearance.”
We think it’s probably the unholiest union of two disparate automakers we’ve ever seen and we dig it. The current Ebay bid is hovering at $19K. We’d love to be a fly on the wall at the local show and shine and see folks faces gape when this BeetleVette pulls up.
