LIVE FEED: 510 Engineering Hosts A Track Day At Royal Purple Raceway

Cabin fever can be an ugly thing. It makes us stir crazy, anxious, and in many cases, a little insane. For those of us who are hardcore drag racers, it can be a particularly unpleasant time. We sit on the sidelines throughout the winter, and if you live in the colder areas of the country, downtime can be as long as six months. [1]

Now that spring is mercifully approaching, a group of some of the most influential tuning shops in the industry have come together to bring racers a track day rental. Held at the Royal Purple Raceway [2] in Baytown, Texas, racers will have an opportunity to test and tune their ride from 10am to 5pm Central time on Friday, February 22. The best part? 510 Race Engineering [3] are one of the groups responsible for the meet, and they told us that so far, only about 13-14 cars are showing up.

While that may not sound impressive, you probably should know that the entry fee is $300 – slightly more expensive than your typical test and tune, you do have a total of seven hours of the track mostly to yourself. There are no classes, no prizes, or trophies. Just run what you brung and give it your best.

We like it. While Kent from 510 wasn’t positive on how many “big number” guys would turn up, he made it a point to tell us that they would be bringing their ProCharged [4] C6 Corvette, a car that has gone as quick as low 10’s previously on a stock bottom end. They’re shooting for deep nines, and knowing how well they know their stuff, we’re confident it’ll happen.
