LeMans Tribute Z06 Brings $210K to National Corvette Museum

The Arctic White one-of-one Z06 Corvette we previously mentioned [2]sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction last weekend for $210,000. Funds from the sale go the the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they are earmarked for a planned Motorsports Park.

[3]In addition to being the first 2011 model year Corvette (VIN #001), the car was built as a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Corvette participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Briggs Cunningham won his class at LeMans, in a 1960 Corvette. It was the first time that Corvettes raced in the French classic.

The winning bidder was Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick will be in good company when driving his latest car. It been autographed by racing legends and Corvette Hall of Fame members Dick Guldstrand, John Fitch and Dick Thompson, as well as 2010 Corvette Racing drivers Johnny O’Connell, Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Jan Magnussen.

Special features in this Corvette include the the Z07 Performance Package; heritage 1960-style blue split stripes and #3 door numbers; special 50th Anniversary of Le Mans Racing logos; LS7 7.0-liter (427 cid), 505 hp small-block V8 with dry sump system and titanium components; 6-speed manual transmission with launch control; carbon fiber fenders and floor panels; and an aluminum frame structure and magnesium engine cradle.

The Corvette sale was one of 21 vehicles that went to auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, raising almost $4 million for twenty local and national charities. Barrett-Jackson waived all fees and commissions on those sales. Hendrick himself, sold two vehicles to benefit the Levine Children’s Hospital.
