[1]The 2014 Corvette Stingray is a car that has been talked about for years and years, and we’re sure there are plenty of ‘Vette fans who have put off a new car purchase in anticipation of the C7. Dealerships are actively taking orders for the new Corvette, and some are even adding $5,000 or $10,000 [2] on top of the $51,995 MSRP. That’s a lot of gasoline.
[3]But that hasn’t stopped the big spenders, car collectors, and the impatient types from plunking down big coin on optioned-out 2014 Corvettes. Motor Authority [4] reports that 75% of early 2014 Corvette Stingray orders are coming equipped with pricey options, driving up the average transaction price, much to GM’s delight.
There are a number of factors at work here, beginning with the Baby Boomer generation retiring en masse. While GM hasn’t disclosed pre-delivery orders, it has been said that GM hopes to sell around 35,000 2014 Corvette Stingrays, which is about double the number of Corvettes sold in all of 2012. Furthermore, the first 500 C7 Corvettes being sold as “Premiere Edition [5]” Corvettes, which come fully-equipped with the Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control.

Even so, big spenders are also coming out to add the latest toy to their expensive collections. Price gouging or not, if you’re going to store a car like the Corvette for posterity, you better not skimp on the options. Even so, only about half of the orders coming include the Magnetic Ride Control, while 75% are also opting for the track-ready Z51 Performance package. Perhaps for some people, the base 2014 Corvette is good enough.
