Why is it that Winter takes so long to pass and Spring is half done before you know it? This temporal anomaly affects all auto enthusiasts, so the Midwest clans should take notice that about eight weeks remain until the Heidt’s Performance Car Challenge arrives. The event is intended provide a dynamic proving ground, challenging the handling and road manners of some of America’s best-built muscle cars.
This recent emphasis on overall performance has changed the game for many car builders, with the result that today’s muscle cars have become far more capable and interesting as well.
If you’ve not had a chance to see the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL, this would be a great time to plan for it. A Friday afternoon BBQ and facility tour at the Heidt’s HQ, in Wauconda, IL, starts off the weekend, followed by a cruise to the Joliet hotel.
The three day extravaganza uses the 1.46-mile north track for hot lapping on Saturday, with an Autocross event scheduled for Sunday, along with a car show and other activities. You can save $40 on the driving event registration before June 20.
After that, it is $395, which is still very reasonable. Car show participation is $25 and includes two adult admissions, a t-shirt and goody bag. The Heidt’s Performance Driving Experience is an Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational qualifier event, so you know the competition is going to be great. Check out the event web page for additional information.
