2014 is quickly becoming a year of scandal for reality show stars. Whether it was the allegations of Honey Boo Boo’s mother dating a child molester, “Sons of Guns” cast members getting arrested for child abuse, or Kim Kardashian’s supple rump supposedly “breaking the internet,” it seems that small-screen icons just can’t keep themselves out of trouble.

And now we have this. Whatever the cause of Bartolo “Buddy” Valastro (a.k.a. Cake Boss, from the eponymous show) and his recent alcohol-fueled antics in the Big Apple, we can all agree that it was ill-advised and impulsive. News came out today that Valastro was seen driving his bright yellow C7 around the streets of New York City in an erratic state, more specifically between the blocks of 20th and 32nd Street in Manhattan.

NYPD officers pulled Valastro to the side of the road and sized up the situation. Valastro reportedly smelled of alcohol and had a flushed face with bloodshot and watery eyes, and the suspicions were confirmed soon after: the Cake Boss given the field sobriety test (walking blind in a straight line, following a pen with his eyes, etc.) and failed.

Detective Martin Speechley commented that Valastro was barely able to maintain his balance during any part of the proceedings, and it was about as open-and-shut as it could get after the breathalyzer read “.09 BAC” on the display. The arraignment was carried out on Thursday, November 13th, and that’s about all we know at this point.

It’s an unfortunate situation for the remorseful Valastro, but at least business is good. NJ.com reports that customers find the matter concerning, but still love the confections and treats that Carlo’s Bake Shop produces.

“I was kind of surprised by the whole thing,” said Mary DePinto, of West New York. “If he’s guilty of it, then he should be charged. Just because you’re a celebrity, doesn’t mean you should get away with anything.”
