For years, General Motors [3] and Barrett-Jackson [4] have teamed up not only to sell the first production model of many iconic Chevys, but also for the benefit of countless charities across the country. As the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction [5] nears, nothing has changed except for the fact that this time around, the two companies will be working together, according to Automotive.com [6], to auction off the very first 2014 Corvette convertible for the noble cause of fighting cancer.

On April 5th, the rights to the first 2014 Corvette convertible will be up for grabs as Barrett-Jackson sets up shop in Florida for their 11th Annual Palm Beach Auction. But in addition to receiving the rights to the first 2014 Corvette drop-top title, the new owner of the car will also get to help the Karmanos Cancer Institute [7] further their fight against cancer.

[8]Over the last two years, the GM Foundation [9] has donated $400,000 to the Karmanos Cancer Institute, adding to the nearly $6 million they donated over the last 16 years to the organization. Whatever the future convertible sells for will add to this staggering sum as it is set to be auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to the Institute.

The highly-anticipated convertible, which is listed as a 6.2L V8/manual car with few other details on Barrett-Jackson’s website [10], should be quite the hot item at the auction.

Apparently, the person who makes the winning bid will receive a letter of authentication and be able to pick the color of the vehicle.

GM North America President Mark Reuss told the Institute [11] that the new 2014 model was the best they had to offer and an obvious way to help further the Institute’s fight against cancer and help continue their patient care. GM will also be supporting the Institute for their 31st Annual Dinner, which will take place at GM’s Detroit Hamtramack plant on April 20th.
