GM Raked In Almost Ten Billion Dollars Profit In 2016

GM and flagsGM reported it’s financial results for 2016 and the news is good.

According to Detroit News, “General Motors Co. said Tuesday its net income last year fell less than 3 percent to $9.43 billion due to a one-time gain it had in 2015. But with record profits in North America and strength in China, the company posted several yearly records including pre-tax adjusted earnings of $12.5 billion.”

To think that almost ten years earlier, GM, the mightiest corporation in the world, was on it’s knees filing bankruptcy and seeking hand-outs from the federal government. Seems like a bad dream now.

There were sentiments then–many from “ToyoNissHonda”owners–who said “Good riddance…” For those who still might hold similar feelings, it’s time to revisit an old quote that still holds true today.

Let’s see where did it go?  Oh here it is…

GM’s CEO Charles “Engine Charlie” Wilson once said,”What’s good for the country is good for General Motors…”

Although times have certainly changed, a heathy, profitable  GM is not only good for America, it’s good for Corvette, Camaro, Cadillac, Chevrolet Performance and the folks that love ’em.

Profits fund the expansion of Bowling Green and hatch tip-of-the-spear mid-engine supercars and DOHC V8s.

As important, it funds alternative propulsion cars like Volt, Bolt EV and hybrids that bolster CAFE numbers and allows enthusiasts to drive big, V8 powered supercars. Trucks and Suburbans too.

GM spread the profits to workers as well, “The automaker also announced profit sharing of up to $12,000 for about 52,000 UAW workers. Payments are slated to arrive Feb. 24. Last year, UAW-GM members received $11,000.”

We say kudos to Mary Barra, Mark Ruess and Dan Amman and the true believers at GM that made the company the global leader in performance cars, engines and alternative propulsion it is today.

Great news and keep up the good work, GM.
