GM: 2014 Corvette Stingray Goes 0-60 MPH in 3.8 Seconds

corvette-stingray-1 [1]Now that we all know what the 2014 Corvette Stingray [2] looks like, questions have turned towards its performance. While the LT1 V8 engine may make 455 horsepower [3], that doesn’t necessarily tell us how fast the Corvette can go and what kind of turns it can take. No, those questions are usually answered once the Corvette enters into the hands of car magazines and websites.

002-2014-chevy-corvette-stingray-z51 [4]But GM has decided rather than let magazines find out for themselves, why not tell them what to expect? According to the General [5], 2014 Corvette Stingray owners who opt for the Z51 performance package will be able to go from 0-60 MPH in just 3.8 seconds.

Even more impressive, the 2014 Corvette achieves a rather remarkable 1.03g on the skidpad, according to GM, and the C7 Corvette owes that excellent handling to the Z51’s Magnetic Ride Control system. But it’s mostly the LT1 engine that allows the 2014 Corvette to blitz through the quarter-mile in 12 seconds flat at 119 MPH.

Just as important as going is stopping, and the Corvette can go from 60 MPH to a dead stop in just 107 feet. GM also brags about completing the 4.2 mile VIR “Grand Course” [6] in 2:51.78, which is somewhat ambiguous since the track has two different “Grand Course” layouts, but seeing as how the absolute record seems to be in the 2:45 range [7], is pretty impressive regardless.

But if you ask us, the whole Corvette package is one big win for GM. There’s nothing to complain about in any of these numbers, as long as they hold up when the buff books get a hold of the Corvette for themselves.
