French Team To Bring Corvette C6.R to Le Mans Cup Series

[1]Fast cars know no boundaries. While we may not often think fondly of our French cousins across the Atlantic, it is important to remember that it was the French who sided with America during the Revolutionary War. It was also the French who gave us the Statue of Liberty.

In what could be an equally historical moment, Larbre Competition, a private French racing team, will be fielding a GT2 Corvette C6.R at the 2011 Intercontinental Le mans Cup Series, reports Corvette Motorsport [2].

Founded by Jack Leconte in 1988, Larbre Competition has had success by the basketful in its brief existence. Larbre has run a considerable number of different cars, from Porsches and Ferraris to Aston Martins, which won them the 2006 GT1 Le Mans Championship. Larbre has also even entered Saleen S7’s and a Viper GT-R, so they are no stranger to American sheetmetal.

The Corvette C6.R they will bring to Le Mans in 2011 will be the official Corvette entry for the highly-competitive GT2 category. They understand that they are undertaking a great cause here, saying in their official press release:

“For this prestigious new challenge, we are happy to defend the colors of Corvette, a mythical mark all over the world and may be the most popular in Le Mans. We built the honours list of the Larbre team in accumulating a great number of victories with Porsche, Dodge, Ferrari, Panoz, Aston Martin and Saleen.”

We are glad they understand the importance of the Corvette to racing fans worldwide, and we’re sure they will do us all proud.
