Preview Of The 2011 Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest

As summer draws to a close, Mid America Motorworks’ annual Corvette Funfest is certain to carry on the spirit of summer fun through the four-day extravaganza. 2011 marks the 18th year of this gathering of all things Corvette and has proven to be an amazing experience for the entire family. This year’s event features a host of activities, manufacturers, demonstrations and more for anyone who has an appreciation for America’s favorite sports car. Located in Effingham, Illinois at Mid America Motorworks’ facilities, this year’s Funfest plans to celebrate the Corvette with a patriotic theme, “America’s Star Spangled Corvette Party.”

With such an All-American theme, Mid America Motorworks will provide a patriotic premium parking display as attendees enter the show. This premium parking will highlight red, white and blue Corvettes. Unlike previous years, all Corvettes will enter and exit through one location to simplify the entire process. Registration and check-in will be held at the Funfest Headquarters; this will be location for participants to pick up their goodie bags and event information. The only exception to this pick up location is for those participants who have registered for the Ultimate Package; participants will pick up their information at the VIP location.

With various options for registration, ranging in price from $25 to $250, this year’s event has a range of activities and benefits for the Corvette owner. Funfest registration includes Funfest goodies and Show Field Parking. At the $50 level, the Premium Parking Funfest Registration includes parking closer to the action or the option to take part in the patriotic parking display (if your Corvette is red, white or blue, only) and Funfest goodies. Unfortunately, the Ultimate Funfest Registration has sold out as of July 18, 2011. This package included Funfest goodies, parking, the Thursday luncheon with Mike, being at the front of the pack for the Thursday Fun Run Road Tour and Downtown Party, admission to the Friday evening Automotive Charity event and a VIP dinner/entertainment pass for one on Saturday night. If that sounds like something you regret missing out on, mark your calendar so you can get in on it next year!

Starting the off the Funfest on Thursday September 15th will allow participants a sneak preview of the show from 11am to 5pm. Due to the sneak preview guests will have the opportunity to register, check-in and map out their Funfest plans ahead of time.

This year’s Friday charity event benefits TREC (Trail Recreation Effingham County), an organization formed in 2005 to serve as an advocate for recreational opportunities for Effingham County.

Like past years, Saturday evening will feature “headlining entertainment” with the lead guitarist of The Eagles, Don Felder. Felder and his band will take to the Corvette Funfest stage to perform “Don Felder: An Evening at the Hotel California.” Felder will entertain his audience with high-octane hits over his 27-year career with the Eagles, including Hotel California.

Keeping with the tradition of catering to all Corvette owners and enthusiasts, this year’s Funfest will include an overhauled Funfest Paradise geared to the female Corvette owner. This ladies-only section will offer spa treatments thanks to the participation of Kellam’s Therapeutic Massage of  Effingham, Illinois, and Botanical Healing Arts of Tuscola, Illinois. With full spa services, including facials, pedicures, manicures and massages, ladies are encouraged to book their appointments early. Also included in Funfest Paradise are seminars, wine tasting including a class, and Corvette merchandise.

Sunday ‘funday’ is all about family at the 2011 Mid American Motorworks Corvette Funfest. This action packed day includes a Pinewood Derby hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, the Mt. Dew Road Tour, 5K run and special entertainment provided by Travis Birch. It may sound like too much for one day, but the folks at Mid America aim to provide members of the Corvette family with as much fun as they can pack into a single day.

Besides the Pinewood Derby, the Boy Scouts of America will be working at this year’s Funfest as well as taking part in some Corvette-centric activities as well. At a special display the Boy Scouts of America will be showcasing their Scout Corvette and selling scale models of the car to support local units and TREC. Along with providing parking assistance, transporting parts to and from Kenny’s Scratch and Dent area and clean up of the facilities and grounds, the scouts will take part in Corvette themed campboree.

Keeping with tradition, Mid America Motorworks selected Keith Martin and Michael Pierce of Corvette Market to serve as Celebrity Judges for the show. These industry VIP’s will have their work cut out them as they help select the best Corvettes at this year’s event. CorvetteOnline Editor Paul Huizenga will also serve as Celebrity Judge for this event. Along with the Celebrity Judge job, CorvetteOnline will produce several feature articles and produce live videos from the event. Along with the event coverage, CorvetteOnline will be on the prowl for potential candidates for upcoming car features on their site. Thanks to participation of numerous Corvette Clubs, CorvetteOnline will feature many of these clubs on their site in addition to everything else.

All of these activities could not take place without the generous help of official Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest sponsors: Neal Tire and Auto Service, a division of Ben Tire Distributors, and Yokohama. After attending the 2010 Funfest with Yokohama, Terry Carlon, CEO of Ben Tire and Scott Carlon, Marketing Manager of Ben Tire decided that they wanted to become involved with the annual event, witnessing the dedication to the Corvette name.  Like the Carlon’s desire to be involved with the Corvette Funfest, Neal Tire likewise felt that this event mirrored their dedication to serving their customer base. Along with sponsoring the event, Neal Tires will handling Tire Installations at the new Install Dome starting on Thursday’s sneak preview day.

With something for everyone this year’s Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest will allow attendees to learn more about their beloved Corvettes, make some memories and perhaps a few new friends along the way. For those Oscar Mayer fans the official Wienermobile will be at this event for tours along with a question and answer session.
