eBay Find: You’ll Pay for the C4 Corvette, but the Sob Story is Free

[1]Cars end up as derelicts for a lot of different reasons – crashes, neglect, and owners falling on hard times all take their toll, but one very common “cause of death” for Corvettes is the dreaded resto gone wrong. Today’s eBay find [2] falls into that category, with a twist. Instead of the owner running out of money or enthusiasm for the project, it was a bad business that put the nail in this C4’s coffin. Let’s let the seller tell the tale:

Here’s the story! I am selling this car for a friend, he had given the car to an individual to be painted in 04′. The painter (if you can call him that) proceeded to sand the entire car, remove the interior, break the rear window and then run off with a blonde, leaving his wife and the car unfinished. The car was unable to be recovered for over a year, after the car was returned it was put into storage.

While the question of whether the unfinished wife is available for somebody to take on as a project as well remains unanswered, this 1984 Corvette will require a tremendous amount of work to put right. Per the seller, the engine is “frozen” from sitting so long, the exterior color is “needs one,” the interior is “also needs one,” trim is “some,” and drive type is “not really.”

Still, with six days left on the auction, two bidders have already run the price up from a starting bid of $200 to an even grand, and there’s no reserve, so somebody is going to take this gem home. Hopefully, better days are ahead, even if it’s just as a parts car for some other forlorn C4 project.
