eBay Find of the Day: A Stringray Corvette Concept You Can Own

[1]We’ll never know for sure what vehicles GM had planned before it entered bankruptcy. There was a lot of talk about a Pontiac-badged Holden Ute coming to America (and a concept shown at SEMA, lending false but well-founded hope to the idea.) The Corvette Stingray Concept that debuted in the Transformers movies seemed to signify the direction for GM’s halo sports car, but that was years ago. We’ve all but given up on speculating what the next Corvette will look like… but we’re pretty sure it won’t look like the sleek Transformer known as Sideswipe.

But if you’re a huge fan of this original toy, then your chance to own a real-life (car) version of Sideswipe is now up on eBay [2].

Based on the chassis of a 2004 C5 Corvette, underneath the hood is a 400 horsepower LS2 engine, backed by an automatic transmission. Nothing appears to have been modified performance-wise, so you’re basically getting a low-mileage C5 Corvette with an engine swap. With under 5,000 miles on the odometer, this Corvette is barely broken in.

The real draw of this unique ride though is its Transformers-inspired looks. From squinty headlights to quad-exit exhaust, this is a remarkably faithful recreation of the GM concept car… save for the bright red paint job, of course. It isn’t a show car, according to the seller’s description, but with a little work it could be shined to perfection. Then you’d have one badass, and unique, Corvette to bring to your local Cars & Coffee.
