eBay Find: Katech C5.R Engine For Sale

katech1 [1]

In the market for some racing memorabilia, or just looking for the ultimate cruise night bragging rights motor swap? Then we have just the thing for you! For sale now on eBay [2] is this Katech [3] FIA GT1-spec C5.R powerplant, complete and ready to run. The spec list is impressive, starting with a genuine C5.R block (an expensive and rare piece in and of itself) stuffed with top-of-the-line forged internals like a Bryant crank, Mahle pistons, and Crower titanium H-beam rods, and topped with that sweet, sweet Katech carbon fiber intake manifold with individual throttle bodies.

katech2 [4]Per Katech, this 426 cubic inch engine has 1,500 miles on it since the last rebuild, and a total of 8,554 miles on the combination since birth. Katech claims you’ll be getting 645 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque, but that 700 horsepower is just a cam swap away. If that horsepower number doesn’t exactly take your breath away, maybe the price will – as of the time this is being written, with just shy of four days left on the auction clock, bidding has topped $17,000 with 66 bids, and the reserve still not met.

With Katech claiming a cost of $85k to build new, the price may still be a bargain, relatively speaking. And who can put a price on the exclusivity of having a real race powerplant under the hood of your Corvette? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
