The way that selling and buying cars on Craigslist works is pretty easy to understand once you’ve spent enough time there. The sheer amount of sellers overvaluing their 1992 Ford Explorer or donked-out 1985 IROC-Z is pretty staggering, but every once in a while, you run across a real unicorn, equal parts breathtaking and nauseating. Such is the case with this 1957 C1 “Nomad,” found on the website’s Seattle chapter (no. 4719123314).
The shock barely lets off as you read on into the description, which lists the car as “1 of only 8,” meaning that somehow, somewhere, there are seven more of these wretched Franken-Vettes stirring around and getting egged in the carpark. All joking aside, however, maybe there are a few redeeming factors that’ll keep us from calling a junkyard tower.
First off, the supercharged LS1 is here to provide a little saving grace in the form of 545 horsepower. That at least helps this monstrosity pull its own weight around town, and give passengers a little more fun than they thought they’d be getting into.
And to the builder’s credit, the interior was very well supplied, if a little too heavy on the red side. Here we find a heads-up display and Alpine stereo, as well as power seats. Other amenities include power steering and power brakes, cruise control, and dual climate air conditioning.
All that redemption goes right out the window, however, when we arrive upon absurd price: $125,000 American. The seller seems to think he can leverage his Nomad-Vette to gain a “2012 or 2013 Corvette Coupe…with LS9 or LS7 engine packages,” citing the sale of a “Nomad Retro Wagon” at a “Mecum auction” that went for “$113,000 plus fees and commissions.” Obviously, he doesn’t bother to share the date, lot number, or location of said auction, because then he’d be caught lying and forced to drop the price dramatically.
