Craigslist Find: This Modified ’02 Z06 Is A Cut Above The Rest

2We’re of the opinion that there isn’t much anyone can do to improve the looks of the C5. As with every Corvette since day one, the styling is stunning straight the the factory.

7The fifth-generation ‘Vette was a 200-mile an hour car right out of the box– with a low, wide stance and fluid, sweeping body lines – Chevy made certain it looked the part. Any aftermarket modifications require a tasteful approach to yield something desirable, and as such, there are those who get it right and (more commonly) those who get it wrong.

We like to think that this dressed-up Z06 we found on Craigslist falls mostly in the “got it right” category. Most mildly (read, “tastefully”) modified C5s get the “wheels and exhaust treatment” – like a set of Forgeline wheels and a Billy Boat exhaust system, for example – as well as other minor modifications like a short-throw shifter and maybe some modest fender flares.

4Typically, any customization outside of this tried-and-true formula borderlines on “Painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.” – or at the very least, requires a skilled hand to pull off. This relatively radical ‘Vette did get the aforementioned “wheels and exhaust treatment”, with its C6 Z06 wheels (always a good choice on the C5, in our opinion) and Borla exhaust, but the modification didn’t stop there.

The owner took things several steps further by introducing the red-stitched suede to the interior, bolting on a laundry-list of go-fast parts to the LS6 mill, and – most-notably – including the C6 headlight transfusion. The interior and engine upgrades add some flair to the already baked in C5 style and performance, but the addition of its successor’s exposed peepers totally transforms the car from the front end. And much like with the C7 headlights on the C6, we find the cross pollination of different generations’ to be rather intriguing.

At the time of writing, this one-of-a-kind C5 has an asking price of $26,999 – which is quite the deal considering its recent top-to-bottom motor rebuild, the slew of upgrades, and the fact that some low-mile, bone-stock C5 Z06s go for around the same price.

But what do you think – is this ‘Vette modified to your liking, or is it a little more gaudy than you can bear? Let us know what you like and don’t like in the comments below.1
