Could the C7 and the Next Ferrari Model Pass as Half-Sisters?

2014-Chevrolet-Corvette-116-medium [1]It’s not uncommon for automotive manufacturers to “reuse” popular body designs, whether they’re from the same parent company or not. Just take the Camaro and Firebird models from 1967 through the early 2000s, for example. Or the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT. But could Ferrari be getting design cues from the brand new C7 Corvette for their future supercars? Maybe not, but the new Ferrari design found by JokeForBlog [2] and featured on Jalopnik [3] certainly has us doing a double take, as the two vehicles look almost as if they’re related.

Ferrari Renderings: JokeForBlog [2]

These new car renderings reportedly came from patent filings by Ferrari for a new car design, And from the looks of it, this could very well be the beginnings of a future Ferrari FF [5] coupe or even the next F12 [6]. If that’s the case, however, Ferrari has done away with the smoothed sides of the current FF, which took millions of dollars and months to perfect, or if its a redesigned F12, they’ve done away with the swooping aero vent.

Slotted “gills” of sorts on the side of performance cars have been around for years – just look at the early Corvettes – but Ferrari seems to be getting away from this design as of recent generations. But the inclusion of side vents, especially of the slotted variety, on the patent drawings point back to one instance of similarity between the two cars (as well as the possibility of this being a redesigned Ferrari California).

Of course, there’s also the elongated hood and nose of the Ferrari, much like the stretched expanse of fiberglass around the Corvette’s engine bay, prominent double-tier grill, vented hood, and crisp hatchback-esque rear end that all inspire a second look.

Sure, sitting side by side, the new C7 and this, or any other Ferrari [9] for that matter, aren’t going to look exactly alike. But with both Chevy and Ferrari aiming for the top tier of performance with their latest sports car creations, there is an undeniable similarity between the latest and greatest from both manufacturers. Dare we say, so much so that they could almost be half-sisters?
