Corvette Racing Finishes Fourth, Seventh At Laguna Seca

Through the first three races of the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Championship, Corvette Racing has been a dominant force, taking two checkered flags and one second-place finish. Unfortunately, that streak came to an end this weekend at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the GT side of Corvette racing as No. 3 and No.4 cars finishing fourth and seventh, respectively.

However, the pair of Corvette Daytona Prototype racers did finish in the top three, making the weekend a mixed bag for GM fans, to say the least.

Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen managed to take the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R to a fourth place finish despite a late-race refueling. Garcia had been in second place before the pitting on the final lap, having come up short of running just a single pit stop during the race. Still, it was the pair’s best result since finishing second to open the season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin, meanwhile, had been running in fifth place with 42 minutes left to race, but Gavin spun the tires while the Corvette was still in the air as a result, he dropped back to tenth place. Gavin managed to make up three of those spots and finished seventh in class.

On the Corvette DP side, however, Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel of the No. 90 Corvette placed second despite starting from pitlane and serving an opening-lap penalty for not completing the pre-race formation laps. Eric Curran and Dane Cameron were third in No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team Fox Corvette DP. That was enough to move them into the Prototype Driver’s Championship lead.

Despite their seventh place finish in the GTLM class, Milner and Gavin still sit in first place in the driver’s standings.
