[1]Later on this month, race cars and teams from all over the world, representing some of the largest automakers on the planet, will converge on the Circuit de la Sarth in the city of Le Mans, France. The epic 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world’s oldest endurance race, and as you would expect, it is taken very seriously among racing teams who are putting weeks worth of practice into a single day’s race.
[3]Corvette Racing recently completed its own testing, reports Motorsport.com [4], putting eight straight hours of stress-testing on their C6.R race cars. This will likely be the last Le Mans for the venerable Corvette C6, and it would be a nice sendoff to go out on top.
The testing at the Sarth circuit followed the three golden rules; don’t hit anything, don’t break anything, and stay on the racetrack. Despite uncooperative weather, Jan Magnussen and his team were able to record the fastest lap time of 3:59, coming in 5th place in the GTE Pro order. With no major mechanical woes or gremlins, the Corvettes seem ready to compete in Le Mans on June 22nd-23rd.
Tommy Milner recorded the team’s second-best time of 4:00 minutes, and the top-six cars were all separated by less than a second. Sounds like a very competitive field for the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, though there is still time for more practice. The Corvettes will take to the Circuit de la Sarth again on June 19th for practice and qualifying ahead of the big show. Can the almost decade-old C6.R rise to the challenge the dominate Le Mans one last time?
