In possibly the worst waste of your tax dollars at work and the most overdue move by a state government, Governor Steve Beshear finally performed a ceremonial signing of House Bill 104 at the Bowling Green Assembly Planton Tuesday. He signed the official bill on April 26.

Actually, several states have unusual official state eh…things. Texas has official footwear. Vermont has an official flavor. Several states have official muffins. Blueberry is the winner in Minnesota, the corn muffin is tops in Massachusetts and the apple muffin rates highest among the legislators of the Empire State (while we’re pretty certain the “muffin top” ranks highest in Florida). Oklahoma has an Official State Meal, consisting of fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecue pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries but, I digress.

Kentucky now has an official state sports car – the Chevrolet Corvette. Bowling Green is home to both the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant and the National Corvette Museum, which started there in 1994.

“As home to the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentuckians have long considered the Corvette to be Kentucky’s sports car and a great symbol of Kentucky pride and craftsmanship,” Beshear said. “House Bill 104, which was passed during the 2010 General Assembly, now makes that designation official.”

Kentuckians may have something more to be proud of, since we first reported the unanimous 100-0 Senate vote in favor, the politicians actually got around to finishing the job, and with no new taxes attached to the Bill.

The act reads as follows:

AN ACT designating the Corvette as the official state sports car of Kentucky.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 2 IS CREATED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:
The Corvette is named and designated the official state sports car of Kentucky.
