Corvette Daytona Prototype Wins Its First GRAND-AM Race

The Spirit of Daytona GRAND-AM team has finally brought home the very first win for the new Corvette Daytona Prototypes. Spirit of Daytona drivers Antonio Garcia and Richard Westbrook teamed up to keep the Corvette DP in the lead for 84 laps of 103 at the recent Porsche 250 held at the Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama.

With Garcia and the Corvette DP in first place and just 32 seconds left in the race, a caution period brought the rest of the field within reach. In a three-lap battle to the end, Garcia and the Spirit of Daytona Corvette held off the competition and reached the checkered flag still holding on to first place. Not only is this the very first victory for the new Corvette Daytona Prototype, but this is also the first GRAND-AM victory in seven years for the Spirit of Daytona team. After the race Garcia told reporters from, “The most important thing was to bring home victory for the Corvette DP.”

Making it an even better day for the Corvette Daytona Prototypes is the fact that it was the GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP with Alex Gurney behind the wheel finished a close second, just 2.32 seconds behind Garcia.
