Corvette Daytona Prototype Takes 1-2 Detroit Belle Isle Grand Am

[1]In what proved to be an action-packed (if plagued by yellow flags) event in the Motor City, this weekend saw the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Am 200 take place. Home to all of America’s automakers, there is no doubt that all of the Big Three wanted to take home victory right in their own back yard.

But there could be only one, and that one was General Motors. In the shadow of GM’s Ren Center, the General was able to win both the Daytona Prototype class with its Corvette, and the GT class with the Camaro GTR, reports PaddockTalk [2].

Driven by Darren Law and Joao Barbosa, the No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype qualified in fourth position and had a lot of work on their hands. Eventually though, the team moved up to the first place position, holding the lead for 21 laps out of 72. They managed to eke out a victory over their fellow Action Express teammates driving the No. 5 Corvette Daytona Prototype.

It is the fourth consecutive victory for the Corvette Daytona Prototypes, giving GM a healthy lead over Ford in the manufacturers’ cup. The Camaro GTR of Autohaus Motorsport was also able to take the top spot in the GT class, giving GM and its many fans plenty of reason to celebrate.
