This year at the Detroit Auto Show the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray [2] and 1500 Silverado [3] were honored with the title of North American Car and Truck of The Year. Fastlane, powered by General Motors [4] reported the great news earlier this week.

Both vehicles were nominated by a group of 48 automotive journalists throughout the United States and Canada. This helps to get an unbiased review of all the cars and trucks in contention. The journalists rated each vehicle based on things categories such as: driver satisfaction, safety, value, design, innovation and of course handling.

2014 marks the first year that Chevy won both awards in the same year. In 2007 the Silverado was awarded truck of the year. The last time that the Corvette won car of the year was 16 years ago back in 1998. To win both categories in the same year is a huge accomplishment.

The Silverado is an impressive truck with its 5.3L EcoTe3 engine. This engine pumps out 355HP for hauling large loads, but then runs on 4-cylinders with no load to improve gas mileage. What this means is you can reach up to 23MPG on the highway, the highest MPG rating of any V-8 truck.

The Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard ‘Vette to date. Equipped with a 6.2L V8, the motor punches an astonishing 455HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with the Z51 exhaust package, both numbers get bumped up 5 to 460HP and 465 lb-ft of torque. This package will knock down 0-60MPH in a mere 3.8 seconds.

All the development for Chevrolet really paid off by winning these awards. We can’t wait to see what they come up with for next year!
