Chevrolet-Specific Events to Take Place at Woodward Dream Cruise

If you’re planning on going to the Woodward Dream Cruise this week, you aren’t alone. As we reported [3] last week, upwards of a million car enthusiasts, including over 40,000 muscle car owners, attended this Detroit event last year. This year, the Dream Cruise is set to attract just as many enthusiasts, if not more. With 2011 being Chevrolet’s centennial anniversary, Chevy specific events will be taking place in conjunction with Dream Cruise to celebrate the company’s mile-mark. Recently, GM News [2] released a list of Chevrolet events to take place with the Cruise, and we must say, these special events are sure to be a hit.

Chevrolet is kicking off their special events on Wednesday August 17th. From 1p.m. to 9p.m. on Wednesday, Chevy will hold the GM Design Car Show. At this show, design team members will show off their personal vehicles and there will be live music.

On Thursday, two events are planned including the Chevrolet Centennial Woodward Parade and the Performance Division and Performance Parts display at Memorial Park. The parade will include 50 Chevrolet Volts, several vehicles from the GM Heritage Collection as well as 20 employee-owned Chevrolet Heritage vehicles. There will also be a new Chevy Sonic and Camaro ZL1 featured in the parade. The display at Memorial Park will feature classic and modern Chevrolet engines. GM Performance Build Center professionals will be at the event disassembling and assembling a Corvette ZR1 engine for attendees to watch. Hot rods, classics and Chevrolet concepts will also be on display, including the 1955 E-ROD Chevy Bel Air. Attendees will also have the opportunity to talk to technical experts and ask questions at the display on Thursday.

Friday’s events include the WWJ Newsradio 950 Motown Muscle Breakfast and the continuation of the Performance Division and Performance Parts display at Memorial Park. You can register for the breakfast online, which will feature a discussion panel hosted by Jeff Gilbert and John McElroy. Chief engineer of the Camaro, Al Oppenheiser will participate in the panel as well as representatives from Ford and Chrysler. The new ZL1 will be on display at the breakfast for attendees to look at.

Saturday will feature the most Chevrolet events of the week at the Dream Cruise. There will be over 60 cars on display at the Birmingham Triangle including Heritage vehicles, classics and new Chevy models. Some of the cars from the “Transformers” movies will also be on display and attendees will be able to have pictures taken with them using a Time Splice 3D camera. Host of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Guy Fieri will have two of his own Camaros on display and will be signing posters from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at the event. In addition to the display at the Birmingham Triangle, Chevrolet dealers will have a parade at 9a.m.

To show their support of the cruisers, Chevrolet will have three pit stops along the Dream Cruise route. At these stops, cruisers can get out of the heat in air-conditioned buildings and muscle car owners can have their cars photographed next to murals of three historic diners. The Performance Division and Performance Parts display will also be open all day.

So if you’re planning to attend the Dream Cruise, or just live in the Detroit area, make sure to check out some of these unique Chevrolet events. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Chevrolet’s centennial birthday than to be able to immerse yourself in Chevy culture from classic to modern at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
