The official reveal of the 2014 C7 Corvette was a historic event for Chevrolet and enthusiasts alike. While many of us gathered around our computers to see the unveiling streamed live over the internet, those who were lucky enough to be at the Detroit Auto Show covering the event walked away with more than just a look at the seventh-generation model. In addition to photographs taken, first-hand experience, and of course, an up close and personal look at the car, media members also received limited edition C7 Corvette Press Kits. Complete with all the new Corvette’s information, these kits have been hitting auction sites like eBay in force, as we told you a week ago [3], and as no surprise to us, the first one issued sold for an incredible amount of money last week, according to CorvetteBlogger [4] and GM News [5].

While Chevrolet handed out special press kits, 2014 to be exact, to media members and special guests following the C7’s reveal, the American manufacturer held on to the first press kit to auction off for charity. The auction, which popped up on eBay on January 13th, included an un-opened, first issue press kit complete with Stingray emblem paperweight, color booklet on the car and a USB flash drive containing images and press releases pertaining to the Corvette.

Unlike the others issued at the reveal, this kit also included signatures from influential parties in the creation of the C7, like GM product development chief Mary Barra, GM North America CEO Mark Reuss, GM design chief Ed Welburn and Corvette chief engineer Tadge Jeuchter.

This isn't the first-issue press kit, but it is available on eBay [9] right now with a high bid of just $177.

With the auction ending on Wednesday January 16th, bidding on the No. 1 press kit went crazy, ending finally with a high bid of $4,300, all of which will go to the American Cancer Society.

So who dug deep and purchased this rare collectors item? Well, let’s just say that the kit won’t be traveling too far from the Corvette assembly line, as the Bowling Green, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce placed the winning bid. Their headquarters is just five miles from where the new C7 will be produced.

While the first press kit was definitely a big ticket item, other kits of various numbers continue to pop up for sale on eBay-among them, the No. 1160 kit we told you about last week. This particular kit, with used press credential included, sold for $684 over the weekend. Others are also up for sale with bids ranging anywhere from the low $100 range up to over $500 currently.
