Check Out Noonan’s 2500 Horsepower All Billet 462 CI LS!

When you’re looking to make a splash at the Performance Racing Industry show with your new LS build, you’ve got to think outside the box. There is no shortage of high-horsepower, high-dollar builds here vying for people’s attention. These days, big horsepower numbers are nice, but you need something a little more eye-catching—or maybe we should say bird catching—to bring people in.

Noonan Ultimate Race Engineering was fully aware of this when they began the process of building their new all-billet LS Edge block to show off. Originally they considered twin turbos, but happened to have a massive supercharger just lying around, since their main line of business it Top Alcohol cars, so that was the direction they took. In our opinion, that is really what puts this mill over the top. Everyone has seen a high-horsepower, twin turbo LS roaming the pages of YouTube, but how often do you see one with a supercharger this size? Never, that’s when.

“Since we are drag racers, and have our own Top Alcohol car around, we had the parts lying around to get this thing to run,” said Dave Harvey of Noonan Ultimate Race Engineering. “Getting boost into it was the name of the game so we used what we had at our disposal.”

And that’s why we believe this build became an internet sensation nearly overnight. It’s not every day that you see a supercharger the size of the actual motor sitting up top. Speaking of the size of the engine, this LS is 462 cubic inches—which is actually more reasonable than we would have guessed.

And while the engine is quite the site to behold, the power numbers are just as impressive as the aesthetics are.

“We haven’t done too much with the engine right now, we are still in the early stages of research and development with the engine and it only has two dyno pulls on it,” said Harvey. “The first exceeded our expectations and did 2120 at 7200 rpm—and that was keeping it pretty safe since we knew we were bringing it to PRI, we obviously didn’t want to hurt it.”

Yep, you heard that right. This brute made 2,120 horsepower on what essentially was a shakedown pull. Harvey tells us that the timing was capped at 20 degrees for all of the runs and a “conservative” 35 pounds of boost. While obviously our definitions of conservative differ, on a build like this the final number will be much closer to 28 or 29 degrees of timing with the same boost number. Not only that, but they intend to rev the engine much higher in order to extract as much as 2500 horsepower out of the mill.

While that may sound like a lot—and believe us, it is—Harvey explained to us that this is the number the engine was designed to “comfortably” produce. Meaning this thing isn’t even running out of steam at 2500 horsepower.

The billet block, constructed from 6061 aluminum, has been punched out to 4.185 inches and is stuffed with a 4.200-inch crankshaft. Harvey said that the block can safely accept up to a 4.250-inch crank, but 4.200 is as large as they would recommend. The bore size should go no further than 4.185 when it comes to using this much boost as well, according to Harvey.

The bullet’s deck height measures in at 9.750 inches and uses a raised cam bore height design to allow for that large throw. The block uses the six-bolt head pattern and comes machined for 1/2-inch studs and 3/8-inch fasteners. Another plus to this mill is that it already has oil feed tubes for the turbos as well if you choose to go that route—although we would recommend the supercharger as it has been known to break the internet.
