Callaway Planning Corvette C7 GT3 Racer

callaway-gt3-1 [1]Among Corvette modifiers, Callaway Cars [2] has made a name for itself for its bold and brash Corvette variants that include twin-turbo street cars and FIA GT3 race cars. With the all-new Corvette C7 [3] unleashed on the public, Callaway wasted no time drawing up an AeroWagon shooting brake [4] concept based on the all-new Stingray, as well as a separate kiddie carrier for Corvette owners burdened by families [5].

Next up for Connecticut-based Callaway is a FIA GT3 Corvette C7 race car [6]. With backing from GM, Callaway has released the first concept sketches of their lightweight, uber-aerodynamic Corvette C7 GT3 race car.

callaway-gt3-2 [7]Competition in the GT3 series requires the approval of the manufacturer to submit homologation forms allowing the Corvette to compete in FIA-sanctioned races. Callaway already holds the homologation rights to the Corvette C6 GT3 racer, so it’s no surprise that GM has turned to Callaway to head the C7 GT3 efforts.

Details on the proposed GT racer are sparse, but the heart of the C7 race car is a lightweight, super-aerodynamic body kit that is almost absurd. Power will definitely be increased, and the Corvette C7 will look to continue a tradition of dominance that dates back more than 50 years. We can’t wait to see more than just concept sketches of this radical race car.
