The Callaway name and Corvette are almost synonymous with one another since the introduction of the twin-turbo back in 1987 (remember Sir Mix A Lot?) Callaway Cars Inc., takes the Corvette to a new level with the C6 based creation named the Callaway C16. AmCar Guide recently covered the built-to-order C16 on their website and provided some insight into this unique creation.
There are three different body style options available for the C16; a coupe, convertible and speedster. According to Callaway Cars’ website the supercharged LS3 power plant produces 650 HP and features a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. A six-speed manual transmission is the standard for the C16, however there is an optional paddle shifted automatic transmission available.
With all of the power that the supercharged LS3 provides, the C16 uses Callaway “Le Mans” 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers with 380/355mm rotors to handle the stopping power. Callaway offers optional carbon ceramic rotors for the Le Mans braking package on the C16.
Sure, it has plenty of power and can stop on a dime, but is the power actually useful? Callaway did not cut corners on the C16’s suspension or handling. After partnering with Eibach to create a specific coil-over suspension, Callaway added a host of other handling luxuries featuring adjustable components to the car. Finally, the 19- by 10-inch front and 20- by 12-inch rear Callaway wheels are wrapped in Michelin PS2 ZP tires for maximum bite on the streets.
Pricing for the C16 (better sit down if you’re not already) starts at $173k for the coupe, and a breathtaking $305,000 for the speedster. Checking the box for the carbon ceramic brakes adds another $15,620 to the bottom line for the coupe and cabrio, but is standard on the speedster, as is the 700hp engine package, which costs the better part of $69k when optioning up the coupe or cabrio.
