Being only a couple of days since the official unveiling of the new Corvette, people are already trying to cash in before the dust has even settled. We have spotted at least two separate ads on eBay of sellers trying to unload the (admittedly cool) press release kits that were passed out to the media this past Sunday.
Both of these kits are unopened, and reportedly have plenty of collectible memorabilia – including a flash drive with exclusive pictures, a Stingray emblem pennant, a numbered booklet (just 2,014 of the kits were produced) and a case featuring the lead designers’ signatures. It might not sound that exciting, but there are a few things you need to know.
The first is that while it may not be all that collectible now, many enthusiasts like to collect random, off-the wall Corvette memorabilia like this. It’s usually the things that most people throw out are some of the most sought out items later on. The second is that one of the ads is hosted by the American Cancer Society.
Oh, and the third thing you need to know is that neither of these press kits are exactly cheap. While the one being sold by a private party is going for $500, the one that will benefit breast cancer research is selling for three times that.
Of course for the price of the $1,500 admission, it’s not about the money, it’s about helping save lives, and that’s not something you can really put a price on.
