With a wait list that can take over a year to fulfill for select models, there is no question whether or not there is demand for the new C7 Corvette Stingray. The Corvette engineers truly outdid themselves as they were able to reach another milestone in the Corvette lineage by offering the most potent power package in a production Corvette to date. Since its release to the public, the C7 has had demand that far exceeds Chevrolet’s ability to produce enough supply to fulfill their orders. This is a great problem to have if you are the powers-at-be in the Chevrolet corporate offices, but for the cash heavy consumer that wants a modern high-tech powerhouse, it can create concern.
While GM has never been a stranger to performance vehicles and currently offers fourteen different performance models, a recent article suggests that some buyers should consider getting the 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe if they don’t want to wait for the C7. While most Corvette fans will shake their head at that idea, Cadillac’s Global Marketing Chief Uwe Ellinghaus pleads his case that if buyers are after performance, cutting edge technology, and even more exclusivity, the CTS-V may meet their needs without having to wait for a C7.
In addition, with the C7 Z51 package in even higher demand than the base C7 and the 2015 Z06 is still some time off, buyers can actually get more raw power out of a CTS-V (556 hp and 551 lb-ft of torque) than they can out of a base model C7 (455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque). Perspective buyers with exclusivity on their mind will be happy to know that Cadillac will only be producing five hundred CTS-V coupes this year, but will have to ignore the V’s higher starting price.
Despite this easy to suggest idea, the fact is that these are two cars with different purposes, market segments, and enthusiast loyalty that buyers will likely have a hard time ignoring. The decision between these two cars is not as simple as a flip of the coin and if buyers have their heart set on the C7, they should feel confident waiting it out.
