Burns Stainless Continues to Innovate in Motorsports

There are a lot of great exhaust manufacturers who not only make great sounding systems, but great looking systems as well. Some are completely polished from the headers back and continue into the exhaust tips, which are usually available in chrome or a variety of other finishes. However when it comes to the customers that are serious about performance at the track, aesthetics generally takes a back to seat to strength, performance, and weight reduction.

Burns Stainless is pleased to announce the production of the Burns NhB Racing Exhaust for the C6 Corvette Z06/ZR­1 (2006 – 2013). The NhB Racing Exhaust is a serious racing-only exhaust system that amazingly sheds half the weight (25-pounds) off of the stock muffler system with a true three-inch core diameter for improved flow, resulting in faster acceleration and improved handling. To reduce weight as much as possible, the stock “quad exhaust tips” have been replaced with two, single three-inch OD exhaust tips.

The NhB exhaust tip design also allows for the addition of exhaust turnouts to direct exhaust noise away from the ever­more­popular track­side sound stations. “We are so excited to see the production release of our C6 exhaust” Jack Burns exclaims, “after designing a lightweight system for the street that would meet our exacting standards, we have decided to return to our roots and offer a ‘no­holds­barred’ system for competition Corvettes.”

The NhB exhaust is constructed from U.S. made, lightweight ASTM 269 18g 304 stainless steel tubes that are TIG ­welded with an argon­ back-purge system for maximum strength and durability. The NhB exhaust system comes standard equipped with two Ultra Lightweight 4­.5-inch OD mufflers, but other muffler options are available.



While Burns Stainless may have got their start in creating quality stainless exhaust systems, they have transferred their knowledge of materials and quality construction into other related areas. Burns Stainless is now carrying the Hydraflow 14J21 flexible coupling compatible with the industry standard AS1650 flanges.

14J21 PictureThe Hydraflow 14J21 coupling is a threadless, flexible coupling for fluid transfer connections originally designed to meet stringent military and aerospace specifications; and is now available for motorsport applications. This lightweight coupling provides both axial 1/4-inch and angular +/‐ 4° flexibility, allowing for misalignment and movement flexibility.

The coupling also includes integral electrical bonding wires allowing for safe electrical grounding to class “S” of MIL‐B‐5087B for fluid systems. The Hydraflow clamp is an evolution of the familiar Adel‐Wiggins design that has been used for many years in motorsports.

The electric bonding straps have been replaced with bonding wires that have been integrated into the clamshell design. Among other safety advantages, these internal electrical bonding wires eliminate the snag hazard when installing wearing gloves. The round wire profile also minimizes wear marks on the aluminum ferrules inherent to the older design.
