Each year, Consumer Reports launches a “Recommended” vehicle list based on road testing, customer satisfaction, safety testing, and a reliability survey. They just announced their “Who’s In and Who’s Out”– with the Chevrolet Camaro and C7 Corvette as definitely, well… “In”.
Both the Camaro and Corvette landed a spot on this list thanks to their “much-improved reliability,” alongside the Chevrolet Cruze and nine other vehicles. These two, though, have seemed to have created a class of their own, as they are few of the sports cars dubbed “reliable” based on these tests.
While a lot of the information on Consumer Reports is saved for only those paying for subscriptions, they still release their suggested trim options for each listed vehicle. For the Camaro, they claim the best trim level is the SS (duh, who wouldn’t choose the V8?), only because it is what seems fitting in such a car deemed “sporty” and “muscle”, but claimed the Camaro boasts great performance with any available engine. Consumer Reports noted its great braking capabilities, the thrilling sound, and outstanding handling. They also opted for the magnetic ride control, which we agree is a great available option.
They seem quite thrilled in their review of the Corvette and claim to enjoy any version, but would ultimately suggest the Z51 package for any driving enthusiast because of the upgraded wheels, tires, and brakes. Noted on the website, the acceleration and handling is described as “thrilling” along with the engine and exhaust tones.
In addition to the Recommended Vehicle List for those with improved reliability, there were also multiple models shown with declining reliability– but none from GM. Frankly, we’re not surprised.
