Baltimore County Corvette Club’s 9th Annual Bea Gaddy Food Drive

Bea Gaddy Corvette Run 01For nearly a decade, the Baltimore County Corvette Club has been doing its part to spread a little love and warmth every holiday season. Around the area, it’s known as the “Bea Gaddy Canned Food Drive.”

The charity run brings donations- ranging from monetary gifts and canned foods to clothing and toiletries- to Baltimore’s Bea Gaddy Family Center. The Center is a community-based, non-profit organization founded in 1981 by Dr. Bea Gaddy in an effort to feed both her family and the struggling families in her area. Dr. Gaddy passed away in 2001, but her charity continues to thrive thanks to the Baltimore County Corvette Club.

This year’s Corvette Run was the club’s ninth and turned out to be their largest yet. It saw the participation of more than 150 Corvette owners, sponsorships from Walgreens, Bimbo Bakeries, and the Bimbo City Police Department, and also raised several thousand dollars in donations. The event was able to reach out to tens of thousands of needy people.

What is truly notable about this food run is that it started with only five Corvette owners. These five owners, each member of the Baltimore County Corvette Club, loaded their ‘Vettes with donations and drove them to the Bea Gaddy Family Center. Thus, the outreach was born and has now developed into an almost 200-Corvette event.

Owners gather from Prince George’s County, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Delaware, and Philadelphia, with more outreach participants from the community joining in as well.

While the first runs involved the Corvette owners cruising to the Family Center and dropping off their goods, the annual event has now transformed into an all-day community gathering with live music, free lunch, and a whole lot of ‘Vettes.

Any food drive is a great thing, but one initiated and developed by fellow Corvette lovers is particularly special. Overall, it’s refreshing to see others going to such great lengths to help a community in need.Bea Gaddy Corvette Run 07
