A Chance To Buy A New Corvette For Half Price

[1]It’s nice to watch automakers roll out with new cars every year, but the fact is that even in the best of times, OEM’s never sold more than 15 million cars a year. That’s less than 5% of the U.S. population. Why so few new car sales? Simply put, even cheap new cars are still an expensive proposition. If you want something fancier, like say a Corvette, be prepared to cough up $50,000. Easy…

That is, unless you buy a car within the next three days through a new partnership between eBay Motors and AutoNation [2]. These two automotive heavyweights are selling 29 new cars at half-price through the end of March. The keystone car is a 2012 Chevy Corvette.

The cars are mostly Ford, Chevy, and Nissan models, and while most of them are rather hum-drum cars, there are a couple of Camaros and Mustangs (all V6 models) thrown in the mix. There was even a Chevy Volt that sold for just over $22,000 (too bad they all aren’t that cheap.) The cars pop up at random times on the website and require an immediate deposit of $500, and the crown jewel of the auction will be a 2012 Chevy Corvette, which hits the site sometime on Friday.

With a base MSRP of $49,600, whoever “wins” this Corvette could easily keep the car as a great bargain, or turn around and flip it for an easy profit. But you’ve got to be on your toes if you want to scoop up one of these great deals; the “contest” ends this Friday. Get ready to click that refresh button a lot.
