’74 Corvette Used To Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

To help educate others about breast cancer and to help encourage women with breast cancer, the “Rolling for a Cause Corvette” was created.  The ’74 black Corvette Sting Ray belongs to Jennifer Barnett and was created to make a difference in the lives of women with Stage IV breast cancer.

In August of 2013 Barnett found a lump in her left breast and about a month later was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer.  “I knew something was wrong,” said Jennifer. “I hadn’t felt good for quite some time. I had dropped weight. I just knew that something wasn’t right with my body.” Doctor’s had done imaging tests and found a tumor in her liver indicating that the cancer was spreading.  After going through a year of chemotherapy it was determined she was misdiagnosed and in February her stage IV cancer was lowered to stage II.

Going from what could have been a death sentence, to blessed with a five-year 93% chance of survival rate, left her wanting to do more to help those who have been left with no hope.  The hood of the Vette has roughly 100 names of breast cancer survivors and a pink ribbon with wings.  Names of women who lost their battle to breast cancer are on the doors.  Women living with stage IV breast cancer have a special ribbon that is tri-colored next to their names.

Barnett wants to use the C3 for special events or to take a woman struggling with chemotherapy for a ride. “I really felt like if I was going to hold on to (the car), she needed a job,” Barnett said. “What better way to gain awareness than to take a vintage car you don’t see every day on the road and put your cause on it.”

We agree and have to give the sincerest of thanks to Jennifer Barnett for her tribute.
