510 Race Engineering Builds ProCharged 10-Second C6 Corvette

You may have noticed that here at Corvette Online, we’re big fans of actually getting out and racing your car – while the stuffed lion in the natural history museum will be around forever, seeing it there lifeless is nothing like experiencing the real thing on safari, ruling its natural habitat.

Some might argue that the dragstrip isn’t exactly the Corvette’s usual stomping ground, but America’s Sports Car does everything well, and the 1320 is an excellent place to prove it. Stock LS2-powered C6 Corvettes typically cover the quarter mile at a mid-12-second pace, but what we have here isn’t quite stock.

Randy Chovanetz of 510 Race Engineering explains, “This car came to us with a list of problems. It was already equipped with the ProCharger and a boost friendly cam. He had bought the car under the impression it had a forged short block and ported heads. Unfortunately that turned out not to be the case. So as the old saying goes, ‘out with the old, in with the new.’”

Broken valve springs, caused by improper installation, triggered a cascade of “while you’re in there…” upgrades that left Chovanetz’ customer Adrian with the stealthy-but-stout C6 you see here today.

Chovanetz says that through an unlocked torque converter, with the ProCharger pumping out a modest 6 pounds per square inch, the C6 put 628 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque to the tires. At the dragstrip the first time out with the new combo, the Corvette ran 10.970 at 129.27 MPH, with a 1.862 60-foot time.

Up next? A ProCharger D1SC, methanol/water injection, and a 4,000 RPM stall converter – we’ll be keeping an eye out to see whether this silver bullet dips into single-digit territory!
