LSX Magazine 2015 Corvette Z06 Pricing Announced - MSRP Starts at Just Under $79k

^[1]Hot on the heels of our test drive of the 2015 Corvette Stingray with the new 8L90 8-speed automatic transmission ^[2], Chevrolet has announced pricing for the C7 Z06 ^[3], and it’s a shocker – Base price for the coupe is just $78,995, while the drop-top will set buyers back $83,995. When you consider that the 2014 Z51 coupe we tested earlier this year had an MSRP of $65,530 with options like the 2LT package, Magnetic Ride Control, and the interior carbon fiber trim, the $13.5k step up to the new Z06 seems pretty reasonable.

It’s an especially nice surprise in light of the expectation it would be priced in C6 ZR1 territory, somewhere north of $100k. Granted, adding in options like the Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package ($2,995), the Z07 package which includes carbon-ceramic brakes ($7,995), and ticking all the other option boxes will take a big bite out of the change you’d get back from your $100k bill, but even fully loaded, the Z06 still delivers a hell of a lot of value for the money.

The Sordid Details:

Three different levels of aero are offered:

The standard Z06 features a front splitter, spats around the front wheel openings, a unique carbon-fiber hood with a larger vent, and an aggressive rear spoiler.
The available carbon-fiber aero package – in either carbon flash paint or a visible carbon-fiber finish – adds a carbon-fiber front splitter with aviation-style winglets, carbon fiber rocker panels, and a larger rear spoiler with a fixed wickerbill, which combine to create true aerodynamic downforce
The available Z07 package adds larger winglets to the front splitter, along with an adjustable, see-through center section on the rear spoiler for track use. With this package, the Corvette Z06 delivers the most aerodynamic downforce of any production car GM has tested.

For the first time, the Z06 will be offered both as a coupe with a removable roof panel, and as a full convertible. GM says that the new C7 frame is 20 percent stiffer than the C6 Z06’s frame, even though it had a fixed roof.

Additional options include 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trim levels, as well as a menu of other goodies including:

Carbon fiber interior trim and carbon fiber convertible tonneau cover inserts

Of course, the 650-horsepower supercharged LT4 is standard on the Z06, as is Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction Management and an electronic limited slip differential.

All in all, even the “base” Z06 will be able to run rings around performance cars costing twice as much – let’s just hope that your local dealership doesn’t decide to make hay while the sun shines and tack on another $10-20k in profit… With any luck, the national mega-dealers that offered the 2014 C7 at MSRP when it first launched will step up and do the same with the new Z06.
