2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible Confirmed For Geneva

[1]These days keeping a secret in the auto industry is an almost impossible feat. Leaks, both purposeful or otherwise, seem to constantly spoil any surprise automakers try to lay on us. The 2014 Corvette Stingray is a perfect example, its likeness leaked more than a year prior to its unveiling.

Rumor had it [2] that the 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible would be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Auto Show in Switzerland. Well the rumors proved right once again, as GM confirmed the Corvette convertible’s reveal will indeed be in Europe.

This makes sense for a number of reasons, chief among them is that GM has revealed previous Corvette convertibles in Geneva, specifically the Corvette C6. GM is also looking to position the 2014 Corvette as more of a world car, with definite influences from European sports car brands like Ferrari. By launching a popular model in Europe, GM is no doubt trying to make an impression on the European elite.

The official reveal will take place on March 5th, and the first retail Corvette convertible will return home to be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction in April. So even though the Corvette will head to Europe, the very first one available for sale will come from America. All we know is that despite all the rumors and hearsay, we’re happy to that the 2014 Corvette is finally here for real.
